Five reasons you should book tickets to see Jay Z

Posted at 5:45 pm, July 18, 2013 in Music & Nightlife

They say you can never have too much of a good thing. And when we say they, we mean the pumped up Jay Z fans who are salivating over how much the rapper-turned-mogul seems to be hanging out in London this year. After performing all three nights of the Wireless festival at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, he’s coming back to us in October to perform his ‘Magna Carter World Tour’ set. So, if you’re still kicking yourself about not nabbing a ticket to see Jigga at Wireless, consider this your second chance to witness what should be one of the hottest shows of the year.

Here’s why you should be looking forward to Jay Z’s October concerts:

Getting your money’s worth

If you’re paying upwards of 70 quid for ticket you want it to be a good investment, right? Well, Jay Z has been known to bring out the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Nas as surprise guests. For any JT or Frank Ocean fans, a ticket to the Magna Carter world tour could be the best investment you’ll make this year.

He plays the classics

Jay Z tends to still perform early tracks that catalysed his rise to stardom as a tribute to his oldest and most loyal followers. For example on his Watch The Throne tour last year, his 1997 single ‘Where I’m From’ became a regular feature of the popular set. You could be one of the 20,000 voices singing along to legendary tracks such as ‘Hard Knock Life’ or ‘Big Pimpin’’ this autumn – life-changing stuff.

Celebrity spotting

Not many rappers can claim to be BFFs with the president of the USA, but Jay Z and Obama have been pally for years now, with Obama even asserting that he often sends texts to tough guy, Hov. On top of that, Jay Z’s got Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow on speed dial. Doubtless there’ll be some A-listers milling about around the O2 hot dog stands.

He’s Jay Z

The guy’s won six BET awards, nine MTV Video music awards and seventeen Grammys. He’s put out twelve solo and five collaborative albums. We repeat: he’s Jay Z for Christ’s sake! Speaking of which, according to Google, Jay Z is more popular than Jesus Christ by 166,000,000 hits. Well, some conspiracy theorists have tried to suggest he’s part of the Illuminati…

He’s streamlined

He’s got 99 problems but a hyphen ain’t one, apparently. Breaking non-news, Jay Z has officially removed the hyphen separating the Jay from the Z. It takes us back to 2007 when he had that silly idea to create his own colour. We can’t think why ‘Jay Z Blue’ wasn’t as successful as some of his other ventures? Harriet Notton

Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning (July 19) at 9am. For info and to book, see our Jay Z listing.
