It’s been a year and half since Nike unleashed their FuelBands on the world – so how are they doing? Have you noticed anyone wearing a chunky rubber ring around their arms and obsessively pacing the office to earn elusive ‘fuel points’? I can’t say I have (but maybe Time Outers are a tad lazy!), but after taking part in NikeFuel’s DJ Lab earlier this month, where they kitted everyone out with the things, I can’t understand why not. This nifty little device unobtrusively gathers info about the steps you’ve taken, how many calories you’ve lost and how many fuel points you’ve racked up during the day, and it’s really addictive.
Ok, so there’s a pricey £129 tag hanging off it, but luckily for you Nike+ (in association with Urban Junkies) are hosting a string of free events this summer where you’ll get your own FuelBand at the door. The DJ Lab we went to was a frantic but fun race to rack up fuel points by learning the basics of DJing, recording a song and playing ‘intros round’ style games. All while soaking up the free food and drink too. The next one, Taco Wars, takes place next Wednesday July 31 at Dalston Yard, where you’ll be forging and gorging on tacos and guac, as well as smashing piñatas, playing tug-o-war and downing margaritas. Think you can stomach it? Sign up at firstname.lastname@example.org before Friday for a chance to be there. Danielle Goldstein
