East London shakes it up as plans are unveiled for giant snow dome next to the Olympic Park, Stratford. The seasonal sports venues is set to challenge the United Emirates’ Ski Dubai resort, becoming not only London’s first indoor ski centre, but the largest indoor ski venue in the world. Its 20,000 square metres of piste will tailor to ski bunnies and boarders alike, with snowboard ramps, an ice-skating rink, toboggan runs and snow-play zones.
The sub-zero Alpine climate will include thousands of tonnes of ‘real’ snow, and standing at twice the size of the UK’s largest centres, poor old Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead will be eating its frozen dust. Rumour has it that the £200 million project bill is to be paid for by shopping centre developers Westfield, and that the centre could open as early as 2015.
News of this snowy development comes as Boris Johnson announces plans to convert the Olympic Stadium, and continues talks with University College London regarding a campus on Olympic Park ground. Kitty Knowles
