50:50 presents Synaethesia: ‘An Art and Food Adventure’

Synae-what? Okay, so we can’t spell it (heck, we can barely say it), but Synaethesia is the name of a venture by the 50:50 crew, who do ‘nothing by halves’ (geddit?). This time, they’re doing 50 percent art, and 50 percent food, in an evening designed to stimulate the senses.

The ratio of 50:50 will be played out throughout the entire event, with even the dishes being composed of half raw and half cooked ingredients. Shaking the pans will be Will Hemming, an exciting chef who has previously cooked for Prêt à Diner, Europe’s largest restaurant pop-up concept. His menu promises to ‘take inspiration from the art world’, with each course paired to fruit and vegetable cocktails.

Dishes include The Smoke Box (a theatrical starter of scallops smoked on the spot and served with three-way peas and pancetta crisps), The Master of Cheek (sous-vide ox cheeks with heritage carrots and dehydrated horseradish kale) and a pudding called Under The Bubble Tree, with raw coconut and cashew nut marshmallow and blackberry in different textures and temperatures served in the shape of a tree. And there won’t just be art on plates – oh no. The event will take place in a room adorned with paintings by emerging artist Meru.
