Our very own graffiti guru Banksy has hopped the pond for a month-long residency in New York, ‘Better Out Than In’, which has had residents racing around the city in a treasure hunt that spans Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
The anti-establishment artist started his time in the city with a bang, setting up an anonymous stand of his own paintings for only $60 a pop in Central Park. When news got out about the stunt, stalls showing fakes of the artist’s work sold out within hours.
However, the reactions haven’t been all positive. Many residents have complained about the graffiti in their areas and the political messages he’s pushing. Even NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg had a crack at the prankster in a statement last weekend.
With the artworks being covered up or defaced almost as soon as they’re up, make sure you check them out now by clicking through our slideshow above. For the latest NYC news, keep your eye’s on our sister Time Out New York blog.
