Despite TfL’s Lost Property Office being filled with a quarter of a million forgotten bits, London ranked pretty badly on the Reader’s Digest ‘lost wallet’ honesty test. But if you saw a cute fella like little Phoebe Simpson’s teddy, which she left on a London train recently, you’d probably be tempted to keep him. Lucky for Phoebe, Twitter lover and general good egg Lauren Bishop Vranch not only rescued the lost lion (called Roar) but has also managed to reunite Phoebe with her beloved toy.
After finding Roar on an East Coast train from King’s Cross to Newcastle, Lauren tweeted a photo of him urging others to help her find its owner. She then took the little lion out with her in Newcastle, taking an amazing series of photos of the toy in different settings around the city tweeting things like ‘Little bear has found a cosy pub with a fire and a Christmas tree. Think he misses home tho’ and ‘Bear has found his way backstage at Northern Stage Newcastle. He’s going to see some panto. Lucky bear.’
As #lostbear’s adventures began to trend, news spread to Phoebe’s dad, who was able to cheer up his teary daughter with the good news. He posted on the ‘Spotted a train’ Facebook page: ‘Wow the power of the internet and kind folk – that’s my daughter Phoebe’s bear – she has been in tears all weekend and I have just shown her the picture and she is over the moon. Thank you all so much! Phoebe is very much looking forward to being reunited with him. Thanks again to everyone!’ Nawww. Ally Swadling
