It’s hard to remember an Oscar race as wide open as the one we find ourselves facing this Sunday, March 2. Three films are in serious contention for the top prize, and any one of them could be named Best Picture on the night. Will it be ‘12 Years a Slave‘, with its hard-hitting subject matter, prestige-picture trappings, powerhouse performances and all-round Historical Importance? Will it be ‘Gravity‘, with its eye-scorching special effects, terrific central turns and intelligent take on age-old ideas of man (or, in this case, woman) against nature? Or will it be ‘American Hustle‘, with its kerr-azy hair and costumes, Yank-friendly subject matter, pithy script and unbeatable quartet of preening star turns?
We wouldn’t like to guess… but unfortunately we’re paid to, so we don’t have a choice!
