It appears the owner of the Apollo Theatre is hoping divine intervention will prevent any more traumatic events like last December’s ceiling collapse, having had the venue blessed by two priests before it reopened on March 26.
Describing the ‘spiritual ceremony’ as an important part of the ‘healing process’ for everyone involved with the events of last year, Nica Burns has revealed the blessing was performed by the theatre’s own chaplain Lindsay Meader and Simon Grigg, the rector of St Paul’s in Covent Garden, otherwise known as ‘the actors’ church’.
Eager to have everyone involved with the ceremony, Burns insisted it was attended by all of the theatre’s staff and the team responsible for the rebuild and redecoration project, which saw the new ceiling decked out with a painted mural of the night sky.
