Who says Hampstead Heath should have a monopoly on swimming ponds? Well, no one. Certainly not the developers of King’s Cross, who’ve put in a planning application to Camden Council to create Europe’s first manmade ‘natural’ pond, with space for up to 163 bathers, right in the middle of the regeneration site. If the application is successful, the water hole could open as early as July.
‘Visitors will find it an unusual experience to walk through a boarded walkway and encounter this pond in the middle of a construction site,’ says Ian Freshwater (yes, that really is his name), project manager behind the King’s Cross redevelopment. We look forward to a spot of backstroke before getting the 10.30am to Welwyn Garden City.
