Shooting has started! It’s been hinted at for a while that May 16 would be the first official day of shooting on ‘Star Wars Episode VII’, and this morning the official Twitter feed of director JJ Abrams’s production company Bad Robot tweeted this still of the very first clapperboard slate. Sure, it’s not the most wildly exciting picture ever, but it does mean that something many of us have long anticipated is finally in motion. The photo comes from a location in Abu Dhabi, not from London’s Pinewood studios where the majority of the shoot will take place. This Middle Eastern portion of the production is set to last for just two weeks, and it’s still unclear if original trilogy cast members like Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will be needed on set, or if it’s just for the newbies like John Boyega and Oscar Isaac. Of course, we still have no idea what the movie is about or whether or not it’ll turn out to be any good – but we can now officially start getting excited.
