Every year a different architect takes on the challenge of designing the Serpentine Gallery’s Summer Pavilion, and it’s world-renowned Chilean Smiljan Radic who’s been commissioned with the task for 2014. After months of work, Radic’s marshmallow-like pavilion opens up to the public tomorrow (Thu Jun 26).
The ethereal dome will not only welcome visitors in the daytime, but will host Park Nights, starting this Friday (Jun 27) until Friday Oct 3, which will see Radic’s multi-purpose space be used as a cinema, theatre, debating chamber, film set, experimental sound lab and concert venue.
The series of live art events kicks off with a chat with Radic himself followed by a talk about Latin American architecture with Justin McGuirk.
Serpentine Pavilion, Kensington Gardens. Selected Fridays from Jun 27 until Oct 3. Park Nights ticket priced £4-£7. Booking essential at ticketweb.co.uk.
