Richmond residents reject 95ft tribute to the Queen

Uh oh, Richmond residents are not happy about the Queen’s 95ft barge being parked up in their backyard. The plan is for the Gloriana (the boat that was the big showpiece of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee party) to be displayed in a Norman Foster designed dry dock in Orleans Park but locals aren’t a fan of this suggestion.

They reckon that the borough is all about conservation and that Gloriana, and the proposed cafe and visitors’ centre that comes as part of the package, will ruin the peace of their ‘hood. After comparing the idea to a Disney tourist attraction, they decided maybe Hampton Court would be a better location.

It seems council leader Lord True spilled the beans about the plan when he was out socialising (whoopsie!). Consultation on the proposed plans will begin this week, so watch this space.
