Another week, another bar opening in Hackney. But Stage 3 is a bit different. First off, it’s hidden away inside the Hackney Empire on Mare Street – which makes a change from the streets of Dalston. Secondly, it’s being run by Platterform, the pop-up food pros who are finally settling down with a permanent home. Thirdly, it incorporates a record shop selling releases from independent local musicians and labels. Fourthly, they have a load of regular events on the cards including the excellent sounding TV Dinners supper club every Wednesday (take that, Orange!), during which they’ll be showing cult classic movies accompanied by a special menu inspired by the film. First up on July 30 is ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ (Tater Tots ahoy) followed by ‘Nacho Libre’ on August 6. There’s also Chi & Tea, a Sunday afternoon wind-down with tea-based cocktails and an Oriental-inspired roast, DJs on Thursday nights and collaborations and performances every Friday and live music on Saturday. If you pop in during the day, you can get breakfast from 8am and street food from 11am.
