Calling all sci-fi fans! Loncon 3 aka the 72nd World Science Fiction Convention is coming to town for the weekend.
Kicking off today, the international event is going to be held at the Excel Centre and has a programme of more than 1,000 activities. The five-day extravaganza brings together the science fiction and fantasy communities to celebrate art, film, literature and other assorted mediums of geekery.
Also known as Worldcon, the convention was first held in 1939 and has been held annually since 1946. It’s only been held in the UK six times before – in London, Brighton and Glasgow.
This year there’s going to be lectures on traditions across the decades and emerging fan groups as well as cosplay activities. Plus, special guests include fantasy novelist Robin Hobb and comic book artist Bryan Talbot.
Tickets range from £5 for an infant to £135 for an adult (being a nerd ain’t cheap, after all) with concessions for young adults, children and supporters as well as a family package. And if you were already planning on heading to Jabberwocky festival at the Excel Centre (which has now been cancelled), this could be the perfect alternative! Showing your Jabberwocky ticket, email confirmation, or refund email you will get £20 off an adult day membership for Friday or Saturday, or £10 off the already reduced Young Adults membership. Nice!
