It’s Christmas! Here’s the most festive fun happening in London today (if you fancy leaving the house)

How best to celebrate Christmas morning? Why, by watching hardy fools plunge into, and then race around, the icy waters of the Serpentine in Hyde Park, of course! The annual Peter Pan Cup Race starts at 9am. Spectators are welcome but you can’t join in unless you’re a member of the Serpentine Swimming Club.

If you’re really craving icy activity, the JW3 Ice Rink on Finchley Road is open today. Or, alternatively, head to the cosy confines of historic Hampstead boozer The Spaniards Inn for a relaxing pint or even a hearty lunch. Its Christmas Day menu features four courses, including turkey or nut roast with all the trimmings, champagne sorbet, plus plenty of other options.

Afterwards, walk off that epicurean excess on nearby Hampstead Heath. And why not let a few festive farts rip while you’re at it?
