Friday I’m in Love: presents Movie Massaoke
This popular singalong club night allows punters to belt out their favourite indie and pop anthems from the ’80s and ’90s. Sound familiar? Nope, it ain’t karaoke – you’ll be singing along with the live house band for a more authentic live experience, so don’t hold back. And don’t worry, lyrics are projected onto the wall so you don’t have to memorise the words after a few drinks.
Music-wise, think everything from The Human League to The Cure to Oasis to Erasure and much more. The night has found a new home at central London boozer and party venue The Phoenix and promises a host of special guests alongside the resident DJs. Previous guests have included Al Murray, Phil Jupitus and Sara Pascoe.
Saturday Feb 14
After a mysterious publicity campaign that involved billboards, posters and stickers being plastered all over London asking: ‘Got house?’ (or disco or techno) with a mobile number underneath, it was finally revealed (via a recorded message after dialling said number) that Skream will be first 2015 resident DJ in the ever-impressive XOYO Residency Series that provided many clubbing highlights of 2014.
The former dubstep don showed us all a while back that his musical tastes expand far beyond just bass wobbles, and he’s proved himself to be an incredibly versatile and talented selector over the past few years. Tonight, Skream showcases his love for disco, with sets from dapper Parisian funkster Dimitri From Paris, ever-impressive London troupe Horsemeat Disco and Midnight Magic in Room One. Over in Room Two, Manchester club crew Homoelectric get furiously funky.
