Until recently, great independent local restaurants in Kingston were scarcer than a free seat on the tube, with the likes of Strada, Côte and La Tasca ruling the roost. But a new riverside venue hosting a handful of buzz-generating pop-up restaurants has shaken up the local scene since launching last November. Riverside Edge – a rough-and-ready industrial-chic venue converted from a multi-storey car park – houses five ‘pocket kitchens’, which will change every six-to-twelve months; the current line-up includes French-American burger bons vivants Le Bun (whose east London residencies have already won them die-hard fans), rustic Mediterranean eatery The Cloud Kitchen, plus Neapolitan pizzas, exquisite macaroons and quality coffee.
