It’s that wonderfully vivid time of the year once again – Holi Festival! The annual Hindu spring celebration of colour took place on Friday but if you want to play, we’d recommend that you make sure you’re online at 9.30am on Monday March 9 to get tickets for one of the best painty parties in town – Play Holi with Dishoom on Sunday March 29 (2pm-4.30pm). We’ve been to the last few years of the restaurant’s Holi festivities and we’re pretty sure they do it best. Storytelling, food, drinks, music, family fun and lots and lots of paint.
This year they’ll be holding it in Lewis Cubitt Square just opposite their new restaurant in King’s Cross, and as it’s outside you can get as messy as you like. And it will get messy. I had to wash my hair five times to get the gulal (coloured powder) out after my last Holi experience (see above). In addition to their own tasty bites, there will also be food from Pizza Pilgrims, Lily Vanilli, Horn OK Please and Rotli Crew. Tickets cost £15 (adult) or £8 (child) and that includes entry, plenty of gulal and soft drinks.
Or if you can’t wait and want to celebrate right now, all branches of Dishoom will be serving up pani puri (a traditional delicious street snack) as a Holi special until Sunday March 8.
