Paul McCartney gave meat-free days a boost, using his fame to encourage people to forfeit the flesh for one day per week, as part of his Meat Free Monday campaign. Taking the concept a step further, March 23 sees the arrival of Meat Free Week – originally an Australian initiative – here in the UK. And Friends of the Earth is going even further by galvanising people to give up meat all month for a Meat Free May.
If you’re tempted to remove the meat from your menu, part-time or otherwise, Meat Free Week has enlisted some of London’s best restaurants to reveal the secrets of some of their vegetarian recipes. Visit their website for inspiration for meat-free dishes from Dishoom, Polpo, Caravan, Bistrot Bruno Loubet and Ethos, among others.
And if cooking your own vegetables is too much trouble, head to London Bridge-based vegetarian pop-up collective The Moveable Feast, whose launch coincides with Meat Free Week. Or you could always just seek out some great veggie-friendly dishes at London’s best restaurants for vegetarian food. Have a nice meat-free day – or week, or month…
