East London has become synonymous with beardy blokes bonding over craft brews, but this weekend will be given over to an altogether different tipple: whisky. As part of its Whisky Weekender, events specialist The Whisky Lounge is bringing its pour of choice to the masses, with drams from all over the world, at an event costing £30 per head.
The event is an opportunity to compare different styles of whisky – from the American bourbons on one side of the globe to the Japanese whiskies on the other, and everything in between. As well as tasting the stuff (and even ‘smoking’ it, using an atomiser, as part of Ardbeg’s sensory whisky experience), you can get talking to small-batch craft distillers, bigwigs of the American whiskey scene, attend masterclasses, sample cocktails and premium ‘under the counter’ drams, and gorge on whisky-friendly street food from the likes of Pull & Punch, the Borough Ham & Cheese Company and The Ginger Pig. At this rate, whisky will soon be hailed as the new gin.
The Whisky Weekender takes place in the Oval Space from April 11-12. Tickets cost £30 per person for a four-hour session including some samplers (under the counter drams not included).
