Restaurant this, street food that; the whole of London seems to think we need five meals a day at the moment, but does nobody remember that our national pastime is boozing? Do you regularly find yourself standing amid market stalls with a korrito in one hand and a pulled pork bap in the other, too parched to shriek ‘WHERE THE HELL DO I GET A DRINK AROUND HERE’? This is the market for you, sip-obsessive.
At Hackney Drinks Market, 30 stalls will sell the potable wares of local brewers, distillers, coffee roasters and soft drink producers, with just enough food to keep you going between drinks. The first market will focus on east London traders, so expect to find beer from Five Points and Signature, pickle juice from The Pickle House, gin made from Hackney Marshes wild cherry blossom and locally made pork scratchings. The only part of all this we’re not looking forward to is the inevitable queue for the loos.
