Folding bikes are great: not only can they can whiz you round London, but they’re a load cooler than the tube in summer. You can keep them under your desk so there’s less chance of them being stolen, and take them on public transport if you’re feeling lazy. Brompton’s folders are the best, but they’re not cheap… unless you hire them. So you’ll be pleased to know that Brompton Bike Hire have announced they’re launching extra docks around London. There are already some at commuter stations like Guildford and Ashford, with more at Peckham Rye, Turnham Green, Ealing, Acton and Croydon are next on the list. You reserve a bike online or by text, then just pick it up, unfold it and keep it for the day, the weekend or longer. The Frequent tariff costs £20 a year plus £2.50 for each 24-hour period you use it. The Leisure tariff is just £1 a year, plus £5 daily hire charge. They’re easier to ride than Boris Bikes, too. Win-win.
